Many of us in leadership roles consider social media as a necessary evil, something we can’t be bothered with or just another time waster in busy days filled with client meetings and staff gatherings. Dr. Alexandra Samuelargues that if that is the case, we’re looking at Social Media in the wrong way!
In her Wall Street Journal Article, “Better Leadership Though Social Media”, Samuel argues that social media is not just a way to stay connected, it can and perhaps should be thought of as a way for leaders to gather intelligence on their competitors, monitor leadership trends, network with other CEO’s and amplify your leadership message.
I deal with a number of very busy executives and none of them are looking to add the task of maintaining another social network but if we can begin to look at social media as a leadership tool, perhaps Dr. Samuel is right and we can become “better leaders through social media.”
